Names in passport and visa should match

If my name and surname get interchanged on the I-20 form given by a U.S. university, will I experience any problems in obtaining a visa?

K. Chandra Sekhara Rao

The name given on your I-20 form must match the name given in your passport. You must request a new I-20 form from your university with the correct name as it appears in your passport.

I attended a visa interview on June 5 and was told that my visa was approved. When I checked the visa status online, it shows that my case is in administrative processing. Can you tell me when I will receive my visa?

We will reschedule your appointment for the first available date once the technical issues are resolved. We will contact you through email or telephone.

My surname is blank on my passport. While filling the online non-immigrant visa application (DS-160), the surname field is mandatory. How should I proceed with the application process?

Aanchal Jaggi

Place your given name in the surname field and put “FNU” (first name unknown) in the given name field.
