Extra snack for SC students burning the midnight oil for SSC exams

The boarders of government’s Scheduled Caste hostels slated to appear for SSC exams in March are being given an extra snack for their late night studies.

This is the first time such a facility is being provided to 15,000 class 10 students in 350 SC hostels across State, said P. Karunakar, director, Scheduled Castes Development Department.

He said the government has made a provision of ₹1,500 per boarder for 100 days till the exams are over. The snack consists of samosa, fruits and other items which are rotated on a daily basis instead of a common menu on all days.

Moreover, the government has let hostels engage private tutors with a honorarium of ₹1,000 a month to teach tough subjects including math, science and English, and agreed to provide transport from hostels to exam centres on the day of exams.

Sources said backward class and ST departments also propose to introduce the system in their own hostels shortly.
