A Ph. D scholar in Sanskrit and from Uttar Pradesh, Dr. Semuhsi Bajpai, is 2008 batch IPS office who earlier worked as Additional SP at Adoni, Additional SP at Krishna (Administration), DCP (Law and Order) Visakhapatnam, before coming to Medak district as Superintendent of Police. She observes that visible policing can arrest many social problems and keep the situation under control. An interview with Dr. Semushi:

How is the law and order situation?

By and large this is a peaceful district and my experience says that. Very rarely we face serious law and order problems. We are also getting advance information regarding agitations and are taking required steps accordingly.

What about the robberies and chain-snatching incidents that are taking place in the district?

We had already nabbed a Parthy gang at Ramachandrapuram and another gang at Siddipet. Our personnel have also busted a case of five murders by a couple. Having borders with Karnataka and Maharashtra became problem as the accused were running away to these place after committing the crime. Similarly, they are running away to Hyderabad, as it is closely located. We are conducting Nakabandi.

The number of road accidents is increasing alarmingly. What are the steps you are putting in place?

Drunken driving, over speeding, overtaking and steep curves on road are some of the reasons for road accidents. We are already using speed laser gun on the Outer Ring Road (ORR) on every alternate day in addition to using breath analysers for drunken driving. Sometimes even road side dhabas are supplying liquor and we are frequently conducting raids. In the recent past, as many as 465 cases were registered and a fine of Rs. 6.96 lakh was imposed.

Why CC cameras were not yet installed in the town while they are already functioning at Chowrastha?

We are already planning for that and they would be ready shortly. Visible policing is very important to arrest any social problems or crimes in the society. We will be focusing on that. Police must be more on the road than in the station. Presence of police will arrest many to commit any crime.
