People of Karimnagar town, who have never even seen RTC bus shelters, would soon have a state-of-the-art modern bus bay with numerous amenities for the benefit of commuters as part of the Smart City project.

The proposed bus bay will have shelter, along with amenities such as drinking water, Wi-Fi and mobile charging points and passenger information system. The first bus bay would come up at Circus grounds in the heart of the town.

Official sources said initially, only one modern bus bay has been proposed at the Circus ground due to lack of government land. Tenders have already been called for the execution of the work. Authorities said the bus bays would promote easy access, convenience and comfort of all bus passengers. The next modern bus bay would be set up at SRR government degree and PG college after the completion of the Circus ground bus bay. The authorities are looking into the possibility of setting up more modern bus bays across the town.

Lok Satta udyama samstha district president N. Srinivas demanded bus bays be set up across all routes in Karimnagar to help passengers. If there is no government land, then the municipal corporation should purchase private landand set up bus bays to meet the growing demand of commuters, he noted.

Welcoming the proposal to set up modern bus bays, he said the authorities should also provide separate toilets for men and women, on a pay-and-use basis, at the bus bays. As Municipal Corporation of Karimnagar cannot widen the roads, it should instead purchase private land and create bus bays to avoid traffic congestion on the roads while providing amenities to the commuters, maintained Mr. Srinivas.
