The Karimnagar district police have embarked upon the task of reviving the defunct minor irrigation tank in the naxalite affected Mahamutharam mandal headquarters adjoining neighbouring Chhattisgarh under the Mission Kakatiya programme on Thursday.

Amid unprecedented security arrangements, Superintendent of Police V Shiva Kumar, Manthani legislator Putta Madhukar, OSD L Subbarayudu, CRPF commandant Arvind Kumar, Kataram CI A Mahesh and others have launched the removal of silt from the Makthakunta tank in the mandal headquarters.

Speaking on the occasion, the SP said that the removal and strengthening of the tank would irrigate 80 acres and also provide drinking water facilities in the village. He said that they would complete the works within 15 days. Manthani legislator P Madhukar lauded the services of police in participating in the developmental works of the backward villages.

The police also distributed volleyball kits to youth of 50 villages of the mandal on the occasion and assured them to provide training to help them secure employment in police and armed forces.
