Work taken up under the Palair and Wyra segments of the State government’s flagship Mission Bhagiratha project at a cost of ₹ 1308 crore is nearing completion and the mission objective of providing piped drinking water supply to every household will be accomplished soon, said Collector R. V. Karnan.
Treated bulk water is being supplied to 370 habitations and around 359 villages are receiving daily water supply under the Palair segment, he said after hoisting the national flag at the Police Parade Grounds on the occasion of Republic Day here on Saturday.
On the road infrastructure development initiatives, he said that as many as 11 works were taken up to widen two-lane roads into four-lane highways at a cost of Rs 165 crore across the district.
Of the 58 works initiated for development of various rural roads in the district at an outlay of Rs 213 crore, as many as 21 works had already been completed.
Works on the Rs 77-crore Road Over Bridge (RoB) at Dhamsalapuram in the town are in progress, he said.
Listing out State government’s multifarious development and welfare initiatives, he exuded confidence that the district would continue to be at the forefront of the development endeavour.

In Bhadradri-Kothagudem district, the 70th Republic Day was celebrated on a grand scale at Pragathi Maidan in Kothagudem town. Speaking at the main R-Day function, Collector Rajat Kumar Saini said works on the ₹ 13,058 crore Sitarama Lift Irrigation Project (SRLIP) are progressing at a brisk pace.
Land to an extent of 3800 acres had already been handed over to the Irrigation Department for the speedy execution of the project, he said, adding that the pace of the project works gained momentum following the Centre’s environmental clearance to the project.
Once completed, the SRLIP will provide irrigation facility to over 6 lakh acres in Bhadradri-Kothagudem, Khammam and Mahabubabad districts.
