Minister orders survey of damaged crops

October 05, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:49 am IST - ADILABAD:

Forest Minister Jogu Ramanna on Sunday announced that he has ordered a survey of cotton and soyabean crops damaged allegedly due to supply of spurious seed.

He informed farmers who had come with damaged cotton and soyabean plants to demonstrate their loss while he was attending a political programme at Neredigonda mandal along with Housing Minister A. Indrakaran Reddy.

‘Report soon’

The farmers arrived from Kupti-Kumari village and complained that the damage to soyabean crop took place only in the fields which were sown with seed supplied by the Hyderabad Agriculture Cooperative Association. They said the crop displayed premature sprouting, which resulted in loss of almost all the entire crop.

The cotton crop displayed wilting, which has resulted in premature bursting of bolls and caused loss of quality and quantity in the produce, the farmers pointed out.

Mr. Ramanna said mandal-level agriculture officers will conduct the survey and submit a report soon.

Sarpanches join TRS

Meanwhile, a dozen sarpanches belonging to TDP and Congress party joined the ruling TRS in the presence of the Ministers at Neredigonda mandal headquarter. Boath MLA Rathod Bapu Rao, TRS west district president Loka Bhuma Reddy and party farmers wing district president B. Goverdhan Reddy were also present.
