Contacting the nearest police station about any untoward incident has now become more easy with the Medak district police taking the initiative of releasing its number for WhatsApp users.

The WhatsApp number is 9490617555.

One can also inform about any unwarranted incident through WhatsApp/mail or phone.

“Don’t fall prey to fake love? One might be lured in the name of love and later may be sold in Red Light Areas or the unsuspecting lovers may use cell phones to capture objectionable pictures. Be careful?”

“Don’t commit suicide fearing temporary problems such as failing in examination, love failure, harassment by in-laws or others. Suicide never addresses your problem. What happens to other family members when you take drastic step?”

Pamphlet

These are some of the messages in the 16- page foldable pamphlet, can be easily kept in the pocket or purse, being prepared by the Police Department for distribution. The effort is to create awareness among the public and become more people-friendly.

It also explains about online cheatings, someone asking about bank account details, PAN number, PIN number and clarifies that no one asks for bank account or other details.

Similar is a warning about online loans, SMS or mail informing that ‘you won lottery worth so many millions of dollars,’ private chit funds offering huge interest rates.

Referring to ‘Dial 100,’ it was informed that the system works under the Centralised mechanism software and each call will be recorded and answered. The department is receiving about150 calls per day.

Explaining about the services being extended at the police station, it says that anyone can lodge a complaint and had the right to get first information report (FIR) at free of cost.

It also explains about child rights, atrocities against woman and the punishments awarded under different sections of the IPC.

The pamphlet also carries cell numbers and land line numbers of all police stations in the district. This was planned for release by Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao.

“We will make these pamphlets available at bus stands and colleges so that awareness can be created. We hope that this can be carried by everyone in the district,” B. Sumathi, Superintendent of Police, told The Hindu .
