In a shocking incident, a man died after he was beaten up by some villagers who suspected him to be a thief. The incident took place late on Friday night and came to light on Saturday. Tension prevailed in the village and police a had a tough time in dealing with relatives of the deceased.
Inebriated
According to police, one Maharajula Nagaraju (36), while returning home in inebriated condition, took the cycle of Srinivas at Ganuga Basti at Kallakal village in Manoharabad mandal. Suspecting him to be a cycle thief, some villagers — Yadagiri, Jayamma, Mahesh and Srinivas — tied him up and beat him black and blue. Locals informed the sarpanch, who in turn sent the village revenue assistant to the spot to rescue Nagaraju. He was shifted to his house, but by Saturday morning he was dead, suspected to be as a result of the attack on him the previous night.
Toopran DSP Kiran Kumar, Circle Inspector Swamy Goud and Manoharabad Sub-Inspector Karunakar rushed to the spot and collected details from Archana, wife of Nagaraju. Heavy police was mobilised in the village to prevent any untoward incidents and security was arranged before the houses of the four accused.
Nagaraju had migrated from Inapur village in Lingampet mandal of Kamareddy district about six years ago to make a living at Kallakal and was working as construction labourer. He is survived by wife and two daughters Akshaya and Sindhu. The family members of Nagaraju demanded that action be taken against the accused. Manoharabad police registered a case and are investigating. The body was shifted to Toopran government hospital for post-mortem.
