A 40-year-old man was found battered to death at Ganesh Nagar Colony here on Monday afternoon, the police reported.

The victim was identified as Kasim, hailing from Cumbum town in Prakasam district of Andhra Pradesh.

He was a habitual robber and mostly operated in trains along this section, police records said. According to sources here, the locals in the colony had alerted the police when they heard screams, reportedly of the victim while being beaten.

Miryalaguda rural police said Kasim is believed to have reached the town on Monday morning and had gone to his local friend Siddu’s place, where they together consumed alcohol.

From the injuries, they said, it is suspected that the attack involved blunt and heavy weapons.

Siddu, a samosa seller on trains, and Kasim had been long-time partners in crime who divided the loot.

Suspicion from their earlier disputes involving sharing of the loot is also an angle of investigation of the crime now.

Two persons were taken into custody for questioning.
