Man awarded 20-year jail for transporting ganja

The Metropolitan Sessions Judge at Nampally here convicted one Nadeem, a truck driver, of transporting huge quantity of ganja. The 25-year-old on Tuesday was awarded 20 years’ rigorous imprisonment as punishment and was imposed a fine of ₹ 1 lakh.

He would have to serve another three years of simple imprisonment if he fails to pay the fine.

According to Directorate of Revenue Intelligence, Hyderabad zonal unit, the truck bearing registration number UP 21 CN 0853 was intercepted on the NH-65 (Hyderabad-Vijayawada) on August 20, 2020.

Nadeem was nabbed with the load of 1, 427 kilograms of ganja at Pantangi toll plaza. He was later booked under various provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act for possessing and transporting commercial quantity of the contraband inter-State.
