The combined effort though small in nature yield excellent results. That is what has happened at Malkapur in Toopran mandal of Medak district.
In the first week of this month, the villagers came together and laid intra-grid pipe lines and also gave tap connections to 340 houses within 24 hours.
Taking inspiration from this village, the residents of the neighbouring Venkatayapalli laid pipelines in the village for 300 households. Even tap connections were given to the residents.
Collector D. Ronald Rose, the motivating force behind the Malkapur social transformation, visited the village along with a team officers and residents of Venkatayapalli and explained to them how the works were taken up to complete laying intra-grid pipeline.
Later he initiated the activity by making the Venkatayapalli villagers and youth part of the programme. By evening the villagers finished laying of the pipes. Then he asked the officials to complete the works and connections by April 25 and make a trail run before April 30 so that supply of Godavari water could begin without any delay from the date announced by the government.
“Youth are voluntarily taking active part in laying water grid pipelines and we are very happy about that. We will also consider whether we can make some payment to them for their participation. However, people should be careful while working in summer and it would be better if they take up works such as jointing or cutting, in the morning or evening,” the Collector said.
Mr. Ronald also inspected the open-well oozing with water at Malkapur where groundwater level has increased as a result of soak pits.
Gajwel Area Development Authority (GADA) special officer Mr. Hanumantha Rao, DRDA Project Director Satyanarayana Reddy, District Forest Officer Sridhar and others participated in the programme.
