Social Welfare Minister Koppula Eswar has directed the district collectors and the social welfare officers at the district level to conduct frequent inspections of social welfare hostels to ensure that there was no compromise on the quality of education and food provided to the boarders.
The social welfare officers in particular should regularly monitor and check whether the boarders were being provided with the items prescribed in the menu fixed by the government. The government had expanded the residential education system to ensure that the students hailing from Scheduled Castes and other weaker sections were given equal opportunities in education and effort should be made to see that quality education was provided to them.
Overseas scholarships
The Minister who reviewed the functioning of the social welfare institutions with senior officials on Friday said the government was firm on ensuring that the benefits intended for the welfare of SCs reached all the eligible people. The officials concerned should accordingly take steps to publicise the benefits of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Overseas Education Scholarships that were introduced in the interests of the students of these marginalised communities.
He recalled that efforts had been initiated to train educated unemployed youth of the SC community in skill development centres through the SC Corporation for making them job ready. A spree of welfare schemes have been launched for the SCs ever since the TRS government took the reigns and efforts should be made to see that the fruits of these schemes reached the last mile, according to an official release.
