The ambitious plans of Telangana Rashtra Samithi to float a federal front at the national-level with regional parties found echo at its Parliamentary party meeting here on Thursday.
Party president and Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao advised the MPs to maintain equi-distance with the BJP and Congress in this background when they participated in the proceedings of Parliament from Monday, sources said.
The three hour meeting also analysed the poor performance of the party in Assembly elections in erstwhile Khammam district where it won only one seat. It was noted that the effect created by Telugu Desam which won two seats and groupism within TRS were the main reasons for the party’s debacle.
Sources added that Mr. Rao asked the MPs to revive the demand for allotment of Bison Polo Ground at Secunderabad for construction of Secretariat. They should confront the Centre for the delay in grounding of All India Institute of Medical Sciences at Bibinagar.
Mount pressure
It was decided at the meeting to mount pressure on the Centre again seeking resolution of several pending issues concerning the State. Mr. Rao had taken up them with the Union ministers on 33 occasions but to no avail. There were 52 such issues which needed to be focussed at the national level. The MPs should visit the concerned departments in a bid to seek their resolution.
Mr. Rao also asked the MPs to press for hike in reservations for STs and minorities as resolved by the State Assembly during the Parliament session. They should strive for the status of national project for Kaleshwaram project, seek construction of the steel plant at Bayyaram as promised in AP Reorganisation Act and construction of a regional ring road for Hyderabad.
The new High Court for Telangana should start functioning from January 1.
The TRS should win 16 out of 17 Lok Sabha seats in the next elections, he told them.
He also advised them to work for funds for Information Technology Investment Region at Hyderabad and see that the National Institute of Designs which was shifted to Vijayawada was restored to Hyderabad. An Indian Institute of Management must be set up in Hyderabad.
