LPG cash transfer benefit scheme re-launch today

Scheme being re-launched in 9 districts of A.P. Consumers who have already registered their Aadhaar cards can avail the benefit without having to do anything. To register bank accounts with distributors, consumers can simply provide the details to the distributor.

About 25 lakh LPG consumers in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana who have not availed LPG cash transfer benefit in the past can begin to avail it, starting Saturday.

The Government of India is re-launching the modified scheme to benefit consumers without Aadhaar cards and those with Aadhar cards, who have not linked it to their bank accounts.

It is being re-launched in Adilabad, Rangareddy and Hyderabad districts of Telangana, and nine districts of Andhra Pradesh.

These 12 districts have a total of one crore LPG consumers. Remaining consumers in other districts of the two States can begin to avail the scheme starting January 1, 2015.

Subsidy in advance

“Consumers without Aadhaar cards can register their bank account with the distributor. As this process will take time, such consumers would be given the subsidy amount in advance so that they can purchase the first LPG cylinder by paying the market price,” said C.H. Srinivas, State level coordinator for petroleum products.

Consumers who have already registered their Aadhaar cards can avail the benefit without having to do anything.

The government has given consumers six months to register bank accounts with the distributors. During the first three months while awaiting registration, consumers can continue to get cylinders at the subsidized rate.

In the next three months, purchase will have to be made at market price but the subsidy amount on all cylinders purchased during this period will be refunded after the bank account is registered with the distributor.

To register bank accounts with distributors, consumers can simply provide the details to the distributor.

Alternatively, they can also provide the 17-digit LPG ID to their bank if it is accepted. Consumers with Aadhaar cards who have not linked it with their bank accounts have been asked to apply for linkage.
