HYDERABAD : The second day of applications for certificates, pensions and the food security cards (FSC) was marred by the death of a pensioner at Saidabad mandal revenue office even as huge crowds thronged application centres across Hyderabad and Rangareddy districts.

The death of 70-year old Mohammed Azam Khan who collapsed when standing in the queue to submit his application, prompted the district administration to announce that senior citizens and physically challenged persons who are unable to come to the application centre, can send their application through other persons. The process for application for caste and income certificates, FSC and pensions, have been taken up by the Telangana government.

The government on Tuesday also finalised eligibility guidelines for FSC. “We have received broad exclusion and inclusion guidelines to determine eligibility which would be used by field staff for verification after October 20,” said Hyderabad Collector Mukesh Kumar Meena.

By Tuesday evening, 1.2 lakh people had applied for FSCs in Hyderabad district as against the existing 6.2 lakh white ration card holders. The district administration expects 8 lakh applications. In Ranga Reddy district, over 3.2 lakh people have applied so far against the existing 9.38 lakh ration card holders.

The government also announced deadline extension for submission of applications in all districts barring Hyderabad, from October 15 to October 20. After the application submission period, verification of applications would begin.

Field staffs visiting households for verification would use government guidelines and household survey data to determine eligibility at the time of visit.

Officials said the household survey data would also be validated by the field verification process.
