Lecture on diabetes control and prevention

Mayor Akula Sujatha said that doctors were integral to society and instrumental in generating awareness on public health. She was inaugurating the Continuous Medical Education programme on diabetes and its prevention at a hotel here on Thursday evening.

A researcher in diabetes and a gold medallist in microbiology, Sreedevi Patnala, from Hyderabad, delivered a lecture on the disease and talked about the medicines available to keep it in control.

She explained the same with the help of a power-point presentation. She was of the opinion that an advanced form of sulfonylurea was far superior to other medicines available in the market for the treatment of type-II diabetes. Noted physicians Suresh Kumar, Jalapathi Rao and J. Tirupathi Rao, head, department of psychiatry at Government Medical College, Akula Vishal, and others were present.
