Land survey for power project intensified

The revenue officials have intensified the survey in the site tentatively identified at Ramanujavaram in Manugur mandal for setting up a thermal power plant under the aegis of the Power Generation Corporation of Telangana State (TS Genco).

The field staffs concerned have recently initiated the survey at the site measuring over 1,000 acres to assess the extent of government and patta lands in the particular site.

They stepped up the survey in the past few days under the direct supervision of the revenue authorities to complete the exercise expeditiously to pave way for the crucial land acquisition process.

An expert committee from the BHEL is expected to conduct a technical feasibility study at the site soon to ascertain the suitability of the soil for establishment of the proposed thermal power project. The TS Genco is reportedly contemplating to set up thermal power station (5X800 MW) in the coal belt area of the district to overcome power deficit and achieve self-sufficiency in power generation in less than three years.

However, the site required for the proposed 4,000 MW power plant is estimated to be well over 3,000 acres. This has necessitated an intense search for identification of another 2,000 acres of suitable land in Manugur or its neighbouring Aswapuram mandal to implement the ambitious power augmentation plan.

Meanwhile, officials from the allied government departments and agencies embarked on an exercise to identify suitable land in Aswapuram mandal for this purpose. The survey in the land measuring over 1,000 acres at Ramanujavaram is being carried out at a brisk pace , said K Venkateshwarlu, Revenue Divisional Officer, Palvancha.
