The double-bedroom housing project at Kollur will prove to be a model township for the whole country, said Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development K.T. Rama Rao on Saturday.

Mr. Rama Rao conducted a surprise inspection of the ‘Dignity Housing’ project on Saturday, and said this is the first time the government is taking up construction of such a scale at a single site.

The high-rise model township is being built on 124 acres, to provide housing to 15,660 beneficiaries.

The amenities will include a modern sewerage lines, sewage treatment plant, and a commercial complex to fund the maintenance of the residential complex. The works for the project are being done on a war footing, with deployment of 3,500 workers and 400 officials in three shifts round the clock, Mr. Rama Rao said. CCTV cameras have been set up at the site to monitor the work.

He advised the officials to set up a special engineering team for supervision and to maintain high quality in construction.

Mayor Bonthu Ram Mohan and GHMC Commissioner B. Janardhan Reddy accompanied the Minister.
