The historic Sri Anjaneya Swamy devasthanam in Kondagattu of Mallial mandal saw thousands of Hanuman devotees visit the temple shrine on the occasion of Hanuman Jayanti on Sunday.

The roads were packed with devotees from various parts of erstwhile Karimnagar district and other parts of the State, donning the ‘mala.’ The devotees formed serpentine queues which were several kilometres long, and it took them more than five hours to perform darshan of the presiding deity.

Authorities made elaborate arrangements for the smooth conduct of darshan by barricading the queues. The temple authorities and several voluntary organisations came forward to provide drinking water by setting up water kiosks at various places of the temple and the ghat road.

Restricting traffic

Taking into account past accidents, the police restricted the movement of vehicles to the temple. The vehicles had to be parked on the foothills of the shrine. The authorities filled the newly-built tank with water for pilgrims to take a holy dip.

Other devotees were forced to bathe in the murky waters of the old tank as the newly built tank was packed to the brim.

The police closely monitored pilgrims through closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras put up at various spots.
