Land oustees of Kochhaguttapally in Chinnakodur mandal — one of the first villages to come forward to give up land for the construction of Anantagiri reservoir spread over both Siddipet and Rajanna-Sircilla districts — have received the rehabilitation and resettlement (R&R) package.
The distribution, which commenced on Thursday, continued on Friday.
The government had completed the construction of Rehabilitation and Resettlement (R&R) colony at Lingareddypally for the Kochhaguttapally oustees with 130 houses spread over 14 acres and MLA T. Harish Rao announced a mega housewarming ceremony on August 15. However, the oustees were unhappy over unfulfilled promises and refused to move into the new houses. They demanded that they be paid their compensation in one go.
Bowing to the pressure, the government extended the benefits under R&R package.
Baddam Yella Reddy, a resident of Kochhaguttapally, who gave up nine acres way back on 2016 under GO 123, was promised compensation of ₹6 lakh per acre. On August 14, he received an amount of ₹7.5 lakh as part of package, ₹5 lakh for each of his two sons and ₹20 lakh as structure value for his house.
“Revenue Divisional Officer M. Jaychandra Reddy has informed us that 250 yards of residential plot would be allotted in the municipal limits of Siddipet to the villagers who have crossed 18 years of age,” said Mr Yella Reddy.
Over 60% of the oustees have already received cheques, Ch, Karthika Reddy, vice-president of the village, told The Hindu , adding, “Those who were reluctant in the past have changed their mind and are now ready to shift to the newly constructed colony at Lingareddypally.”
Mandal Revenue Officer K. Mallesh said distribution of cheques is continuing and would be completed shortly.
About 50 farmers from the village have approached the High Court seeking implementation of Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act (LA Act- 2013).
