KMC to rejig ad policy

July 17, 2014 11:36 pm | Updated 11:36 pm IST - KARIMNAGAR:

The Karimnagar Municipal Corporation has decided to streamline the advertisement policy and collect more revenue from the hoardings and other publicity materials of various organisations and business establishments.

Expressing concern over the corporation collecting only paltry amount through hoardings in the town, Mayor S. Ravinder Singh said that there were large-scale irregularities in according permission to the agencies to

publicise through hoardings in the town. Though, there are around 500 hoardings in the town, the corporation was showing only 190 hoardings, he said and added that the authorities were collecting only Rs 34 lakh per annum against Rs 1 crore.

Talking to newsmen here on Thursday, Singh said that majority of the hoardings have been erected on rooftops of buildings without following the safety norms of the municipal corporation and no-objection certificate from the building owner. Alleging that the advertisement tax was not collected properly in the town, he said that they had decided to abolish the hoarding agencies’ permission and call for fresh tenders to increase revenue of the corporation. Instructing all the business establishments and others to create their own parking places, he said that the municipal authorities would launch a special drive against encroachments of cellars for commercial purposes and dismantle illegal structures in cellars. Corporators Md Arif, K Srinivas and others were also present.
