Around 69 candidates belonging to the families those set to forego their lands for the proposed thermal power project at Manuguru are appearing in the ongoing SSC (Open School) examinations at a centre in Pinapaka mandal.

The district administration has paid the examination fee of the 69 candidates and conducted special classes for them in the open school stream, a few months ago.

The initiative was part of the Rehabilitation and Resettlement (R&R) package meant for the land-losers of the proposed 1,080 MW coal-based power project (4X270 MW).

It was aimed at enabling the eligible members of the land losers’ families acquire the minimum educational qualification for gaining employment in the proposed coal-based power plant, for which the foundation stone was laid by Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao in March this year. Around 69 members of the land losers’ families are taking the SSC (Open School) examinations at the Tribal Welfare Ashram School at Elchireddypalli in Pinapaka mandal, said K. Ravindranath Reddy, District Educational Officer, Khammam.

Classes were conducted for the members of the land losers’ families at a study centre in Pinapaka earlier this year.

In all, as many as 3,722 candidates, including the 69 members of the land losers’ families appeared for the English paper of the SSC (Open School) examination at 17 examination centres all over the district on Tuesday.

A total of 2,952 candidates took the English paper of the Intermediate (Open School) examination held at 13 centres in the district on Tuesday. Five candidates were booked for malpractices at two centres one in Karepalli mandal and another in Sattupalli mandal on the second day of the open school examinations in the district.
