Senior Congress leader Mallu Ravi has requested the Chief Minister, K. Chandrasekhar Rao, to convene an all-party meeting to discuss fee reimbursement, particularly the fixation of cut-off date for nativity status.

In a letter addressed to the Chief Minister on Sunday, Mr. Ravi said there was also a lot of confusion among students and educational institutions on the quantum of assistance the students would get under the new scheme – Financial Assistance to Students of Telangana (FAST) – envisaged by the State government.

Welcoming the government’s decision to implement several welfare schemes including farm loan waiver, enhancement of social security pension amounts, 12 per cent quota to tribal and minority communities and others, the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee official spokesperson said the housing scheme for the poor has come to a halt for the last four months.

Citing the example of Mahabubnagar district, the Congress leader said the construction of 87,000 houses under Indiramma scheme was stopped midway due to pending bills of Rs. 16.5 crore. The beneficiaries concerned were expecting that the government would increase the unit cost of their houses too and construct 2 BHK houses as promised. He requested the government to expedite the policy decision and resume housing programme at the earliest.
