The Telangana government has called a meeting with representatives of the Bulk Drug Manufacturers Association (BDMA) on Friday to discuss the finer details of setting up Hyderabad pharma city on the outskirts of Mucherla village in Ranga Reddy district.
The government is of the view that a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) can be formed to take forward the construction of pharma city, after industry heads evinced keen interest in the project, when they inspected the open land along with Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao.
Nearly 3,000 acres of government land was readily available in Ranga Reddy district and another stretch of nearly 7,000 acres in the adjoining Mahabubnagar district. The identified land, which is dotted by small hillocks and three or four water bodies, is located between Hyderabad-Kalwakurthi road and the Nagarjunasagar road. What appears to have convinced pharma honchos is the location of the land. It is about 30 minutes away from Shamshabad airport and about 20 km from the Outer Ring Road (ORR).
Noticing the enthusiasm of the pharma industry captains, Mr. Chandrasekhar Rao readily agreed to provide four-lane road connectivity from three sides to the proposed pharma city. A suggestion that a railway line be laid was also agreed to by the Chief Minister. “My job is over now that we have frozen the land. You can now meet my officials and finalise everything. Works will have to begin within a year,” a beaming Mr. Rao remarked.
The Chief Minister’s entourage included top industrialists like Satish Reddy, chairman of Dr. Reddy’s, B. Parthasarathy Reddy, chairman and MD of Hetero, K. Nithyananda Reddy, vice-chairman of Aurobindo, M. Narayan Reddy of Virco, P. Eshwar Reddy of BDMA, MSN Reddy of MSN Labs, Santosh of VV Med, S. Anand of Sagar group and M. Mohan Rao of Cynud. Local legislator Teegala Krishna Reddy and district Minister P. Mahendar Reddy were also present.
