KCR funding Bathukamma festivities to please his daughter: Congress

October 12, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:53 am IST - KARIMNAGAR:

Karimnagar district Mahila Congress president Gugilla Jayashree launched a scathing attack on Nizamabad MP Kavitha for promoting only the Bathukamma festivities at the cost of State exchequer when the State was reeling under acute drought conditions.

Talking to newsmen here on Sunday, she said that the people of Telangana region very well know about the Bathukamma festival, which was being celebrated since ages.

“There is no need for Kavitha to tell about the importance of Bathukamma festival, who started learning about the festival only after entering politics,” she said.

When over 140 women farmers have committed suicide, the Nizamabad MP, who talks about the empowerment of women, had never uttered a word or consoled the bereaved families, she alleged.

The money spent on Kavitha’s foreign jaunts in the name of promotion of Bathukamma festival, would have benefitted several thousands of farmers in the region, she maintained.

‘TRS leaders frustrated’

She reminded that the people of the region have celebrated the Bathukamma festival without government support and alleged that Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao was releasing several crores of rupees for the conduct of festival only to appease his daughter.

With regard to the Ministers stating that the bandh called by the opposition parties was a flop show in the State, she shot back stating that the Ministers were making such statements out of frustration following the success of the bandh.

She asked why the government had resorted to huge arrests of various leaders on the occasion of bandh.

Loan waiver sought

She demanded that the government should fulfil its promise of waiver of crop loans immediately. Mahila Congress leaders Madhavi, Chandrakala, Swaroopa, Nagula Laxmi, Anjali and others were also present.

“There is no need for Kavitha to talk about the importance of Bathukamma festival, as she started learning about it only after entering politics”
