Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national president Amit Shah with state president K. Laxman waves to supporters during Samarabheri election meeting at Karimnagar on Wednesday.

Appealing to people to cast their vote in favour of the BJP for continuing the good work done by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government, BJP national president Amit Shah alleged that the Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) government headed by Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao had “totally failed” in fulfilling the aspirations of the people since it came to power four years ago.

Launching a tirade against the TRS president for failing to fulfil his promise of making a Dalit Chief Minister, Mr Shah said KCR was more keen on elevating his son or daughter to the post. “Even if Mr. Rao prefers to retire from politics, he will do so after anointing either his son or daughter to the post,” he said. Mr. Shah launched BJP’s election campaign by addressing an impressive public meeting — Samarabheri — here on Wednesday.

He faulted the Chief Minister for his decision to advance elections by several months claiming that the decision would entail huge burden on the exchequer. “The TRS president deliberately advanced the elections as he is afraid of his prospects amid the ‘Modi wave’ if elections are held simultaneously for Assembly and the Lok Sabha,” he said.

Central funds

The BJP president said the TRS government promised to construct over two lakh houses for the poor under the double-bedroom housing scheme, but has completed less than 5,000 units so far. “In the process, the government has diverted the funds released by the Central government for other purposes,” he alleged. The Central government had released ₹ 1.15 lakh crore to Telangana under the 14th Finance Commission against the ₹ 16,597 crore by the Congress under the 13th Finance Commission.

The government has not fulfilled the aspirations of all sections, more so, the families of the people who sacrificed their lives for the cause of separate Telangana. Not a single martyr’s family received any benefit like job or income security four years after the new State was formed, he pointed out.

Grand alliance

He was equally critical of the Congress claiming that “Rahul Baba and company” would not be in a position to form government in spite of the alliances the Congress had with the TDP. The proposed grand alliance of the Congress, the TDP and other parties could not be seen as an alternative to the TRS as these parties too would work at the behest of the MIM. The BJP alone was capable of fighting against the Owaisi family and emerge as an alternative in the State.

Illegal immigrants

Mr. Shah criticised the Congress, the TDP, the TRS and other parties for allowing the Rohingya to stay in the country. The Central government has so far identified over 40 lakh illegal immigrants staying in the country and re-election of the BJP would ensure that these people were sent out of the country, he added.
