The wet run of two more motors at Nandi Medaram pump house in Package-6 of the Kaleshwarm project was conducted successfully by the irrigation authorities and work agency engineers in Peddapally district on Wednesday.

Engineer-in-Chief of Kaleshwaram project N. Venkateshwarlu supervised the wet run of motors 3 and 4 with 124.4 MW capacity each taken up in the forenoon and in the evening. “The two motors pumped out 3,200 cusecs each from the delivery cisterns as they reached the required speed of around 200 revolutions per minute (RPM),” a senior engineer who was part of the exercise at the pump house said.

The wet run of two other motors in the pump house was taken up on April 24 and 25 successfully and the water pumped out is being stored in the Nandi Medaram tank. The water stored would be used to conduct the wet run of motors in Package-8 of the project at Laxmipur later this month.

Storage capacity

By using the pump houses in Package-6 and Package-8 of the project, the State government is planning to take Godavari water at least till Mid Manair reservoir, which has a storage capacity of about 25 tmc ft.

Meanwhile, the project engineers are also planning to conduct the wet run of motors in Kannepally pump house of Medigadda barrage, one of the three barrages constructed across river Godavari, later this month.

The pump houses of Annaram and Sundilla barrages are also being readied to make them operational as it is necessary to lift Godavari water to Yellampally barrage and from there to Mid Manair through the pump houses at Nandi Medaram and Laxmipur.
