‘Job scheme a boon for farm workers’

The Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee (MGNREGS) scheme has come as boon to the farm labourers to help them to secure employment during the drought conditions, said Collector Neetu Prasad.

Participating in the 10th anniversary celebrations of launching of MGNREGS in Nallagonda village of Thimmapur mandal and Eradavelli village of Shankarpatnam mandals on Tuesday, the Collector said that the scheme had provided employment several thousands of labourers helped in the construction of permanent structures in the villages.

Presently, about one lakh labourers were engaged in the MGNREGS in Karimnagar district. She asked the authorities to ensure that two labourers were engaged in the scheme works and take up permanent desiltation and strengthening of tanks in the villages.

She also called upon the villagers to construct farm ponds in the fields to harvest rain water and recharge ground water table. She also instructed the authorities to construct cattle troughs under scheme. She also directed the officials to prepare action plan to mitigate drinking water problems in the summer season.

Earlier, the Collector cut a cake on the occasion of 10th anniversary of MGNREGS and felicitated the labourers, who have participated in more days of work and the field officers for enrolling more number of labourers.

The Collector also inspected Zilla Parishad high school in Nallagonda village and interacted with the teachers and students and inquired about the preparation for the ensuing SSC examinations. She informed the faculty to prepare the students for examinations by preparing model question papers. She also inspected the midday meals prepared in the school. DWMA project director Ganesh, ZPTC member Padma, MPP Premalatha, Sarpanch Sunitha and others were also present.
