Intermediate toppers receive cash award

Children of late V. Ramakoteswar Rao, an academic and a social worker, gave away cash awards to poor girls from rural areas who topped the Intermediate examination at Government Junior College here on Tuesday.

Observing the first death anniversary of their father, V. Gurunatha Rao, V. Anuradha and V. Avanthi, gave away cash awards of Rs. 4,500 to students Radhika, Bhavani in science stream, Ramadevi in arts and Nagamani Devi in an vocational course for scoring the highest marks in their respective disciplines. Earlier, Mr. Gurunatha Rao donated Rs. 6,000 towards school badges to 300 students studying at Zilla Parishad Secondary School at Kambalapally village. College principal Srilakshmi, lecturers Pavani Devika and others were present.

Academic Ramakoteswar Rao worked as a teacher, lecturer and principal in government institutions and was known for his services to the poor in and around Mahabubabad. He had associated himself with all the social activities, including the conduct of annual Sri Ramanavami for over 50 years.

Mr. Gurunatha Rao said that to perpetuate the ideals and memories of his father, he was planning to give scholarships to poor students excelling in studies every year.
