: A couple who reported to the police three months ago that their daughter-in-law was missing are now being accused of having killed her a day prior to their complaint. Police said the 25-year-old woman, P. Varalakshmi, was strangled to death with a rope at Barrenkela village in Nagayalanka mandal on the night of July 3by her in-laws, police said.
The murder came to light on Thursday after P. Brahmaneswara Rao and his wife P. Naga Pushpavati allegedly confessed to their crime. The police had no suspicion of the murder when they lodged a complaint at the Nagayalanka police station on July 4, stating that their daughter-in-law had been missing since the previous day. As motive, police explained the accused did not want their son, P. Vamsi Siva Krishna, to marry Varalakshmi, a native of Regidi Amadalavalasa mandal in Srikakulam district. The sonhad fallen in love with the woman. They married in Hyderabad in May 2013. Based on the statements given by the accused, the Nagayalanka police said the man’s parents never reconciled to the inter-caste marriage and hatched a plot to kill Ms Varalakshmi. Police have registered cases under Section 302 of the IPC against Brahmaneswara , Pushpavati and Vamsi.
