In a move that would improve the literary rate in the district, the authorities launched the ‘Ammaku Askhara Mala’ programme, where mothers would be taught the Telugu alphabet.
The administration has prepared a video in which students of classes 7, 8, 9 and 10 would be taught how to teach their mothers Telugu. They have to teach four letters each day for 14 days, by which time the women would be acquainted with the alphabet. For the next two months, they would be taught different words and how to use them.
Retaining power
Collector Manickaraj Kannan launched the programme at Mirjapur (B) and Hadnoor Government Schools in Nyalakal mandal on Monday. “Utilise the two months summer break to make your mothers become literate so that they can become independent and get their work done. Spending 10 minutes to 15 minutes a day with them is enough to reach this target,” said Mr. Kannan, adding that the students should also check to what extent their mothers were able to retain what they learnt.
Mr. Kannan has also interacted with the students and asked their opinion on the Ammaku Askhara Mala programme.
