The Indian Institute of Technology-Hyderabad (IITH) is introducing three new courses – M.Tech in biomedical, chemical and material science engineering – in August this year and July 21 is the deadline to submit the online application.

While the primary goal of the M.Tech programme in three different streams is to provide a strong coursework to students to meet the industry requirements, it also offers a flexible structure to cater to those who are interested in research. A student can choose any course and graduate in three semesters or he/she can choose to submit a full thesis in 14 months, which is similar to the regular two-year M.Tech programme. The institute introduced the concept of ‘all-course M.Tech programme’ in 2017 in three specialisations—civil, electrical and mechanical engineering.

“The Indian industries need highly skilled workforce equipped with latest practices, and this, we believe, could be achieved through an exhaustive set of courses. In addition to the existing specialisations in civil, electrical and mechanical engineering, we are expanding the all-course M.Tech programme to biomedical, chemical, and material science engineering from August this year,” said U.B. Desai, IIT-H Director.

“The all-course programme will not be a short-cut to an IIT degree. The students in all-course programme, besides taking the normal course load, will have to take extra courses in place of the research work done in the second year of the regular two-year M.Tech programme. The course rigour will be the same,” he added.

In the all-course M.Tech programme, students will not be entitled to any fellowship as GATE qualification is not mandatory. On successful completion of the programme, the students will receive an M.Tech degree.
