IIPH to have its own campus

Public Health Foundation of India (PHFI) president K. Srinath Reddy on Tuesday said the Indian Institute of Public Health Hyderabad, a PHFI unit, will soon have a world class campus in the city.

The Indian Institute of Public Health Hyderabad (IIPH) is currently headquartered in the State in a buidling in Kavuri Hills, Madhapur. With a 25-acre land parcel in Rajendra Nagar, Mr. Reddy said construction for its campus would begin soon.

“The Hyderabad campus is going ahead with construction because land has been decided by the government. We have the support of 40 organisations from across the world to develop a world class Institute of Public Health Sciences. The Indian Institute of Public Health Hyderabad will now be called Institute of Public Health Sciences. It is going to be one of the strongest institutes of public health in Asia,” he said.

Touching India’s health indicators Dr. Reddy said despite making headway in the last decade, these indicators remain poor as compared to other South Asian and BRICS countries. He pointed out inqualities in public health exist across the country. Comparing Kerala and Assam, he said the latter has an 11-year lower life expectancy as compared to the former.
