A total of 3,957 new houses were sanctioned in six slums in Warangal and Hanamkonda and they will be completed within four months, said Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao.

Addressing the residents of Laxmipuram slum here on Sunday, he distributed pensions and ration cards to those who could not get them in the first phase. He laid foundation stone for the ground plus one housing scheme in the slum, in addition to five other slums in the two cities.

“There are 70 big slums here and in a phased manner the problems of people living there will be sorted out. Things will not happen overnight and it takes time. Those who ruled for six decades failed to address your problem. I am here and no Chief Minister ever stayed in Warangal for four days. You take my word and you all cooperate with me to solve your problems,” he told the cheering crowds.

Mr. Rao wanted the people to stay united and get their houses completed. None should pay any bribe to any officer or middleman. If they are forced, he said they can call up his office over 040-23454071 and complain about the same.

After ensuring housing to the poor, the government will plan for their economic empowerment, he said. “Those who know driving will get financial assistance to buy an auto or trolley and similarly others will get loans to start their own enterprise,” he assured the public.

Warangal city will witness massive development in the days to come. As it has excellent rail network, more industries can come up and people will get more jobs. “In three to four years, Warangal will be a good place to live in. Do not believe in what other parties say. You take my word and I will show it,” the Chief Minister said.

MLAs, MPs and officials accompanied the Chief Minister during his tour to slums in the last four days.
