HBC Chairman D.V. Manohar has been named the vice-president and treasurer of the newly-formed World Cycling Alliance.

This was announced at the 98th annual conference of the WCA, an international non-profit organisation focused on promoting cycling across the world. All India Bicycling Federation, along with other national cycling bodies would be part of the grand alliance.

“We firmly believe that cycling will help in achieving the 2030 U.N. Sustainable Development Goals. We also want to create awareness on cycling that can transform lives around the globe by increasing access to education, jobs, healthcare and social networks.” said Mr. Manohar. “Cycling is the solution to conserving the ecological fabric of the society,” he added.

“The WCA aims to serve as the unified, effective, non-government voice that connects and promotes the best global efforts to encourage cycling,” said Mr. Manohar.

“It already comprises more than 100 member organisations from all continents, and will work to develop and expand partnerships with government agencies, NGOs, businesses, foundations and individuals,” he said.

“The launch announcement brought together members, partners and leaders from health, mobility, planning, development and cycling industry sectors,” said Mr. Manohar.

In his statement, WCA president Raluca Fiser of Romania said the mission is to promote cycling as a mode of transport as well as for leisure and tourism.

The World Cycling Alliance includes a diverse mix of global bicycle advocacy leaders who represent expert, time-tested organisations of each continent.
