The air is pregnant with aroma, as it always is in this part of the town during every Ramzan. The road opposite the old Government High School in Karimnagar that leads to the RTC bus station is dotted with stalls selling harees, a dish that is prepared during the Muslim holy month of Ramzan, drawing rozedar s and passers-by in droves.
A Nizami preparation, harees delights in the elaborate use of spices, besides wheat, mutton, chicken and vegetables. Several stalls and roadside kitchens serving the dish have come up on the stretch. There is more on the menu though: haleem, dum biryani , paya and desserts such as double ka meetha andqubani ka meetha .
Come evening and the stalls are lit up, and huge crowds of rozedar s and others make their way to the eateries for the daily dose of harees and haleem. The stretch opposite the Government High School is home to around 10-odd roadside kitchens. However, there are more than 30 stalls in various parts of the town serving harees.
Kings Harees in particular, located opposite the Manair Hotel in the town, has made its mark in the town for quality and good service.
