Grazers want sheep from AP, Karnataka

The sheep grazers in the district have been demanding sheep from Karnataka and Maharashtra as part of sheep distribution scheme. In the district about 30,000 beneficiaries have applied for sheep units.

The farmers from the district are demanding breed from Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh as they are better suited for the local conditions.

A team comprising veterinary doctors and other officers were camping in Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh and were on the job of identifying the location of availability of sheep.

The team members had already visited Belagavi, Haveri, Vijayapura and Kalburgi in Karnataka and Kurnool and Anantapur in Andhra Pradesh and now they are camping there.

“We are already at Belagavi to identify the sheep and procure them,” said an officer.
