The Congress Legislature Party (CLP) has criticised the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) Government for refusing permission to All India Congress Committee (AICC) president Rahul Gandhi’s interaction planned with students and youth on the campus of Osmania University.
Congress legislators, who participated in the meeting held on the Assembly premises here on Saturday, demanded that the decision of not allowing the Congress president’s meeting on the OU campus be taken back.
Leader of the CLP K. Jana Reddy, MLAs J. Geetha Reddy, M. Bhatti Vikramarka, Ch. Vamshichand Reddy and D. Madhava Reddy and MLCs Md. Ali Shabbir and Akula Lalitha attended the brief meeting that lasted less than an hour. Party leaders stated that some legislators, including Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, were busy with the arrangements linked to Mr. Gandhi’s visit, while some others were in their constituencies.
Those who attended the CLP meeting were unanimous in faulting the TRS Government’s attitude for not allowing permission to the president of the Congress, which had given statehood to Telangana in spite of knowing well that it would face a backlash in Andhra Pradesh.
Meanwhile, the TPCC officials stated that Mr. Gandhi’s scheduled meeting with small traders and Muslim community leaders at the Exhibition Grounds on August 14 stood cancelled, following refusal of nod for the meeting by the Special Protection Group (SPG) that takes care of the AICC chief’s security.
Speaking to reporters earlier, Mr. Vikramarka said such undemocratic ways of administration by the TRS Government would not last long as the day of people breaking such barriers was not far away. Ms. Geetha Reddy and former MP Madhu Yashki also criticised the government on the denial of permission to Mr. Gandhi's visit to OU campus.
