Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao is striving to fulfil the dreams and aspirations of Telangana ideologue late Prof. K. Jayashankar by implementing various welfare and developmental programmes in the new State, said Minister for Finance and Civil Supplies Eatala Rajender on Monday.

He was speaking after paying floral tributes to the statue of Prof. Jayashankar on his 84th birth anniversary celebrations here on Monday.

Stating that Jayashankar played a crucial role during the second phase of statehood movement launched in 2001, he said the Chief Minister was doing all that was planned by Prof. Jayashankar for a separate Telangana state. MLC Naradasu Laxman Rao, MLA G. Kamalakar and Collector Sarfaraz Ahmad also paid floral tributes to the statue of Jayashankar.

’Inspired generations’

Political leaders and district officials garlanded Prof. Jayashankar’s statue at Ekasila Park in Hanamkonda town and recalled his contributions to the separate Telangana movement.

Telangana Assembly Speaker S. Madhusudhana Chary said Prof. Jayashankar was the first to oppose the merger of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, and took part in the separate Telangana movement since his school days. “Throughout his life, he kept the movement alive and inspired generations,” Mr. Chary said.

Deputy Chief Minister Kadiyam Srihari said people of Telangana would never forget Mr Jayashankar, who was instrumental in mobilising support across the country for the cause of separate Telangana. “The State government has taken up massive development of Akkampet village in Atmakur mandal as a mark of respect to the great academic and guide. Every effort is made to perpetuate the ideals of late Jayashankar and the youth should continue to draw inspiration from his selfless service,” Mr. Srihari said.

Srinivas Reddy paid homage to the late educationist by garlanding his idol at Banswada.
