Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) supremo and Chief Minister K.Chandrasekhar Rao urged the people to give a majority of more than four lakh votes to the party candidate, Kotha Prabhakar Reddy, in the by-election to the Medak Lok Sabha seat scheduled for September 13.

Addressing a huge public meeting held at this constituency headquarters, native place of Congress candidate V. Sunitha Lakshma Reddy, on Wednesday, he said though the victory of Mr. Prabhakar Reddy was a certainty on the day of filing nomination itself, a reduced majority would make the party a laughing stock before other parties.

‘Will honour promises’ “This is the district of the Chief Minister and the seat had been vacated because of my resignation. Others will laugh at us if our majority is reduced and say that the ruling party is losing in the Chief Minister’s native district. Do not let this happen. Give him more majority. I will keep all the promises made during the campaign,” he said.

Referring to the comments of Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president Ponnala Lakshmaiah, the TRS president said 100 days was a short period to perform for any government. “They are distributing some pamphlets that the government had failed and farmers committed suicide. Who is responsible for this? Was it not the Congress? Had he ever thought about farmers and waiving of loans for them,” he asked. The Chief Minister said that he sent officials to Mumbai to hold discussions with the RBI on loan waiver and they have accepted its implementation in three districts and shortly it would be extended to other districts as well.

Mr. Chandrasekhar Rao said that increased pension for the disabled and aged people and ‘Kalyana Lakshmi’ programmes would be implemented from Dasara and toddy shops would also be opened from the same day. He also stated that 12 per cent reservation for STs and minorities would be implemented without fail. Coming down on the BJP, the Chief Minister asked why the people of the region should vote for that party. “Is it for merging seven mandals in Andhra Pradesh, for giving power only to Andhra Pradesh or giving party ticket to T. Jayaprakash Reddy,” he asked.
