In a shocking incident, a woman handed over her infant at Sishugruha in the district headquarters on Tuesday.

According to R. Ratnam, District Child Protection Officer (DCPO), Sikli and Bikya are residents of Rupla tanda under Kothapet village of Shivampet mandal in Medak district. They already have three girl children and one of them died. Recently, Sikli gave birth to another baby girl and Bikya wanted to sell the baby. Coming to know of this, Lakshmi, an anganwadi worker of Kothapet, alerted the officials who held counselling for both parents. However, they were reluctant. Along with Lakshmi, Sikli came to Sishugruha, handed over the girl to officials there and walked away silently.
