Fourteen women who were earlier rescued from different prostitution rackets escaped from Ujjwala, a rescue home managed by Kasturba Gandhi National Memorial Trust at Hydershahkote, after breaking open the ventilator of a bathroom in the wee hours of Saturday.
First, they broke up the ventilator grill in the room, then they moved on to the lintel above the window, from there, they jumped, scaled the compound wall, and escaped. The compound wall has solar fencing, Narsingi sub-inspector A Anvesh Reddy said. The entire escape was recorded on the surveillance camera on the premises.
The incident happened around 2 a.m., and within 45 minutes the management noticed that 14 rescued women were missing and alerted police, DCP (Madhapur) K. Shilpavali told The Hindu.
“Soon, a team was rushed to the rescue home and efforts are on to trace the women,” she said.
She said that the women were from different northern States.
