Former Adilabad MP and TDP Politburo member Ramesh Rathod was arrested by Khanapur police early on Monday in a case related to manhandling of a gunman of Khanapur legislator A. Rekha Naik of the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi. He was later released on bail.

The incident took place two days ago when the two leaders went to Khanapur hospital to enquire about the health condition of injured persons in an accident. Srinivas, the gunman of Ms.Rekha Naik, was allegedly beaten up by Mr. Rathod when he tried to prevent the latter from coming closer to the MLA.

A protest demonstration was staged by Ms. Naik and her supporters at Khanapur and Utnoor that night which led to booking of a case under IPC sections 353, 323 and 186. The accused was arrested at Khanapur and produced at Nirmal court.

Mr Ramesh Rathod alleged he was being pressured to join the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS). He said that the case for assault on the gunman was foisted upon him to coerce him to join the TRS.

He addressed newsmen after coming out of Nirmal Court on being granted bail in the case. The former MP was arrested by Khanapur police early in the morning and produced before the Nirmal Munsif Magistrate. He also said that he would sue the gunman and others who accused him of the assault.
