Five persons meet watery grave

Five persons including two girls are feared drowned in Dindi reservoir, about 80 kms from Nalgonda district headquarters on Monday.

The tragedy struck the families of D. Karnakar Reddy and D. Datta Reddy, both brothers, native of Dindi village. The brothers along with their children and other relatives had come to Dindi on Monday to perform the 10th day ritual of their father, who passed away last week.

After completing the formalities and having bath in the reservoir, the family elders left leaving behind Mr. Karnakar Reddy’s daughters - Devayani and Joythsna and Mr. Datta Reddy’s sons - Harshavardhan Reddy and Praneeth Reddy and another close relative Avinash Reddy. The victims stayed back for swimming. Unaware of the depth of reservoir, they went inside and met a watery grave.

The locals said that another youth of the family also went into reservoir, but a passer by saved him. Except Harsvardhan, who was working with a private firm, all are engineering students. The irrigation, revenue and Police departments together have launched search operations and were able to retrieve the bodies.
