The first cable-stayed bridge being constructed across the river Manair at an estimated cost of ₹ 187 crore on the outskirts would become an icon for the newly formed Telangana State, said Minister for BC Welfare and Civil Supplies Gangula Kamalakar.

The iconic bridge being executed jointly by Tata Projects Limited, and Gulermak, a Turkey-based firm would be completed by March 2020.

“It would ease traffic congestion on the Karimnagar-Hyderabad route at Alugunur crossroads. Also, those travelling from Karimnagar town can easily reach Manakondur and head to Warangal,” he said, adding the bridge would be illuminated with special lighting. The Minister inspected the construction, and inquired about progress of the works on Wednesday. Speaking on the occasion, he said the cable-stayed bridge would come between two huge pylons (pillars) measuring 220 metres, and would have four-lane roads and footpaths for pedestrians. Stating that the works were delayed for some time due to the incessant rains, he hoped it would pick up momentum and be completed by March 2020.

Claiming that Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao and Minister K.T. Rama Rao have more love for Karimnagar district, he thanked both for sanctioning the first cable-stayed bridge, IT Tower, and Manair riverfront. He said the government had allocated ₹ 5 crore for KCR Island which would come up in the LMD reservoir.

“Once completed, all these would encourage tourism in Karimnagar town. Besides, it would act as a junction for pilgrims visiting various shrines like Vemulawada, Kondagattu, Dharmapuri, Koti Lingala and Kaleshwaram of integrated Karimnagar district. Mr. Kamalakar pointed out.

R&B EE Venkataramana, former deputy mayor G.Ramesh, former corporators Y Sunil Rao and others were also present.
