Fire at mattress unit

Major fire broke out in a mattress manufacturing unit at Kallakal in Toopran mandal of Medak district in the wee hours of Monday.

Mattresses ready for supply and machinery was reduced to ashes. The loss was estimated to be in few crores of rupees. Fire engines were pressed into service to control fire.

We have started manufacturing of mattresses in April and were yet to insure the unit. Today we were planning get the unit insured and this accident took place. We suspect that some unidentified persons might have intentionally put fire to the unit, alleged Jahangeer Khan, proprietor of the unit, who hails from Alwal in city.

Deputy Inspector of Factories Y. Gangadhar Reddy, who visited the spot, said that the loss was huge and that they were yet to assess the loss.
