Extortion bid backfires

Two pseudo Maoists held in Suryapet

Two pseudo Maoists were arrested by Suryapet police as they attempted to extort money from Suryapet rural mandal parishad president, Maste Janaiah. The accused has been identified as Munugelti Lakshaman, welder by profession, and Rama Venkat, both natives of Ponugodu village of Mothkur mandal. They were allegedly involved in a number of extortion cases in the past in Garidepally, Mattampally and other places.

Suryapet DSP M.A. Rasheed said the two-member gang called Mr. Janaiah, who is also into real estate business, and demanded Rs. 4 lakh a few days ago. The DSP said Mr. Janaiah approached them without any delay. Suggesting Mr. Janaiah to invite the pseudo Maoists to collect money at Anjanapuri Colony in Suryapet, Mr. Rasheed said that they deployed a police team led by Sub-Inspector M.A. Jabbar and Srinivas, who nabbed them. The police seized one toy gun, a sword, two mobile phones and Rs 10,000 cash from the accused. A case has been registered.
