January 07, 2015 12:44 am | Updated 12:44 am IST - HYDERABAD:

Former Vice-Chairman of the National Disaster Management Authority, Marri Sashidhar Reddy, has said it was important to follow up with the Centre, the process of delimitation of Assembly constituencies in Telangana and AP, so that elections could be held for 153 and 225 constituencies in the two States respectively, in 2019. At a press conference here on Tuesday, he recalled that when he first raised the issue in November 2013, seeking to increase the number of Assembly seats to 153 from the present 119 and for each LS constituency to have nine Assembly seats instead of the present seven, there was overwhelming support from all political parties in united Andhra Pradesh.

Mr. Reddy said he would write to Chief Ministers of both the States, apart from other leaders, to come together and take up the matter with the Centre.
