Several candidates who appeared for the PG entrance examination of Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) and their parents had a tough time on Saturday as they came to the city from far-off places.

Out of the total 10 cities where the online examination was held across the country, Vijayawada was one and only city in the two Telugu States.

This has forced hundreds of candidates and their parents from Hyderabad and other districts of Telangana and AP to come all the way for the examination.

According to information, about 1,300 candidates took the examination for entry into MD and MS programmes at two centres in Kandrika and Patamata. In Patamata centre alone over 1,000 candidates were allotted.

Meanwhile, parents who accompanied their wards had to endure the city’s sweltering weather as they waited for more than three hours near the examination centres. Parents wondered why there was no centre in Hyderabad where most of the candidates from AP and Telangana get trained in a number of institutions. “At least for the next session, the institute needs to offer a centre in Hyderabad. The examination is conducted twice in a year and students who couldn’t crack the examination will take another one before January,” said T. Suresh Kumar, parent of an aspirant at Patamata. Mr. Suresh is from Hyderabad.
